Peer review procedure

Since its foundation in 1911, Felix Meiner Verlag has pursued a strictly humanistic, predominantly philosophical programme. It publishes editions of classical philosophical texts and study editions in the “Philosophische Bibliothek”, but also journals, monographs, and anthologies in series as well as titles not bound to a specific series.

To guarantee the scientific quality of the publications, all manuscripts submitted are first thoroughly checked by the editorial office. A distinction of the further procedure has then to be made as follows:

1. In the case of contributions to journals and yearbooks, the decision on whether to accept a contribution is the responsibility of the editors, who apply the established peer-review procedures in each case. Journals and yearbooks also have a scientific advisory council which is consulted for the peer-review process.-
2. In the case of a series, the editors decide on the publication together with the publisher. In the case of qualification publications, the authors are asked to submit their dissertation or habilitation reports. In addition, external reviewers may be asked for a statement.
3. In the case of non-series publications, the editorial office of the publishing house decides after thorough examination and, among other things, on the basis of the available dissertation or habilitation reports. In addition, external reviewers are consulted for assessment.

Furthermore, all publications published by Meiner Verlag, including journals and serial titles, are subject to a final, thorough editing process on the part of the publishing house. In addition to ensuring the highest academic standards in terms of content and form, it is important to us that the text is easy to read and that the line of thought is clear.
