Peer review procedure

Formal book proposals are reviewed by members of our Advisory Board with expertise in the proposal’s subject area(s).

After (and if) formal proposals are green-lighted, completed manuscripts are reviewed by 2-3 experts in the author’s field(s), who decide whether or not to recommend publication, typically contingent upon revisions.

In general, we follow the AAUP’s guidelines for “Best Practices for Peer Review,” but we are also an author-centered press and we are open to authors choosing the sort of review process that they feel will best serve the development of their work: double-anonymous, single-anonymous, open and transparent, online and crowd-based, etc. However, we feel that open-access publishers should be embracing more open forms of review.
