Peer review procedure

All the open access publications of Editions Alphil-Presses universitaires suisses are peer-reviewed. This guarantees the quality and relevance of our publications.

We have three procedures for books as follows:

  1. Manuscripts of books published in a series are first submitted to the editors of the series. The editors make a selection before submitting a proposition to the editorial board of Editions Alphil-Presses universitaires suisses. If the book is in adequacy with our editorial policy and pre-accepted by the editorial board, the manuscript is sent to 1 or 2 reviewers – the number depending on the subject of the work. Every manuscript is peer reviewed, single or double, depending on what is applicable in the field or in the series.

  2. A project or manuscript proposed for publication sent to Editions Alphil-Presses universitaires suisses outside a series is submitted to the editorial board which assesses the need of that publication and the adequacy with our editorial policy. If the required conditions are met, the book is considered as pre-accepted by the editorial board. Then, the manuscript is sent to 1 or 2 reviewers – the number depending on the subject of the work. Every manuscript is peer reviewed, single or double, depending on what is applicable in the field.

  3. A manuscript from a doctoral thesis proposed for publication to Editions Alphil-Presses universitaires suisses is submitted to the editorial board which assesses the need of that publication and the adequacy with our editorial policy. If the required conditions are met, the book is considered as pre-accepted by the editorial board. Then the editorial board ask for the thesis defence report. If such a document doesn’t exist or is not available, the editorial board ask to the members of the thesis committee for a report on the manuscript, based on the thesis defence session and on the manuscript itself.

The outcome of the review process is either ‘accepted’, ‘accepted with revisions’ or ‘rejected’.

The peer review procedure is coordinated by the editorial board.
