Hamburg University Press

Peer review procedure

Hamburg University Press publishes titles with academic and/or scientific background. All publications are hybrid, the on-line derivates are offered open access.

Titles appearing in series are chosen by the series editors; other titles are chosen by head of the publishing house after consulting members of the very community if necessary.

All publications are typeset according to the publishing house’s corporate identity. They are thoroughly proof-read and copy-edited by academics with subject expertise. The level of copy-editing depends on agreement with authors. Series editors are responsible for copy-editing themselves.

The publishing house (cross-)checks the quality of delivered manuscripts and sometimes do extra copy-editing on series titles depending on the quality of the editors’ work.

After manuscripts are typeset, the proof-reader/copy-editor works on the manuscripts in close co-operation with the author. After finishing this step, the author gets the typeset and corrected manuscript as well as cover/jacket for cross-checking.

In the next step a proof is delivered to author · and publishing house for a last cross-check before release.

From the released version an on-line version is derived; it is being offered on the publishing house’s website, long-term archieved (German National Library) and spread via catalogues and other valid internet sources e.g. by transferring metadata via OAI-API.
