Welcoming publishers and library supporters

OAPEN and DOAB are pleased to welcome these new and renewing partners in Q1 of 2025

As two not-for-profit open infrastructures, OAPEN and the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) rely primarily on the generous support of academic libraries and publishers to help sustain and develop our open access (OA) book services. This could be for several reasons, but most important for us is that through these contributions, libraries and publishers are demonstrating the value they see in our mission and platforms.

Libraries can support OAPEN and DOAB in exchange for a range of benefits available exclusively to them. We recognise the valuable contributions they provide amid an increasing myriad of challenges they face in the current political and economic environment, to enable us to continue to deliver our services at the standard expected of us by our community.

Publishers who wish to join OAPEN must publish academic, peer reviewed OA books that are made freely available (e.g., under a Creative Commons license). We charge a small hosting fee (more information) to help maintain and develop the platform and allow us to continue to provide this service. Publishers who wish to join DOAB can do so for free, provided they meet a specific set of criteria which can be found on the website, alongside the application form.

This quarter, we saw library support from Canada, France, Sweden, Austria, The Netherlands, the United States, and the UK. Similarly, publishers joined us from the United States and Sweden, as well as Italy, Germany, Norway, Argentina, and Ecuador.

We are grateful to the following libraries and consortia who have either supported us for the first time or continued their long-time support; and to the following libraries who want to make OA books more discoverable and the latest research available around the world by being part of the OAPEN Library and DOAB.
